THE ROUTES

NEW ROUTE FOR 2016!! We’re adding some of our area’s most fun trails into the mix this year, including VISTA in O’Neill and WATERWORKS in the Arroyo. After exiting the Applied Medical parking lot at Comercio and Empresa, riders will travel along Empresa a short distance to Aventura, where they will turn left and continue to the end of Aventura to access the Tijeras Creek and Arroyo Trabuco trails. Riders travel north into O’Neill Park, up the Live Oak trail to the cell tower, then down Vista trail, back through the base of the park and then up Twisty Tire to the upper Mesa section of the park. The route then travels along Plano Trabuco road to the Dove Canyon waterfall (site of a major aid station). 50 Milers will continue out to Caspers Park using the Bell View and West Ridge trails, dropping down Starr Rise, continuing to the aid station at the Old Corral parking lot. Then riders will climb up East Ridge, back around to Starr Rise and retrace their route back to the Dove Waterfall aid station. After refueling, riders follow the Tijeras Creek Trail past SMCHS, across Coto de Caza, down and alongside Antonio Pkwy, then dropping into the Arroyo Trabuco Trail, making their way back to the start/finish at Applied Medical in RSM.

*The 50 Mile Route is our signature event. You’re in for a total of 47 miles and 5000 feet of climbing. Typical 5-7 hours ride time, best to train for this one!
Aid Station and Rider Cut-Off Plan
(This information applies to both 25 and 50 milers): For rider safety, and to ensure all riders and volunteers arrive back at the course start in time for our post-ride party and raffle, rider cut-off times will be enforced.

NEW ROUTE FOR 2016!! This route shares the same beginning and ending as the 50 miler – but it skips the entire Caspers Park section. After refueling, riders follow the Tijeras Creek Trail past SMCHS, across Coto de Caza, down and alongside Antonio Pkwy, then dropping into the Arroyo Trabuco Trail, making their way back to the start/finish at Applied Medical in RSM.
**25 Mile route actual mileage is 25.4, with 2400 feet of climbing. Typical 3-4 hours ride time, suitable for strong intermediate riders and above.
(*Typical 2 hrs ride time, 400 ft climbing – suitable for active novice to intermediate riders.)
Our 10 mile route option is a great way for novice or younger riders to join the fun. After exiting the Applied Medical parking lot at Comercio and Empresa, riders will travel along Empresa a short distance to Aventura, where they will turn left and continue to the end of Aventura to access the Tijeras Creek and Arroyo Trabuco trails. In this shorter route, riders will turn SOUTH on the Arroyo Trabuco trail and continue until the turnaround point at approximately 4.5 miles. We’ll have a small aid station at the turnaround point, and riders will return along the same trail back to Applied Medical in RSM. Yes, there will be some hills, rocks, streams (hard to avoid in mountain biking). But we guarantee you’ll have a blast. We’ll be throwing in a few games along the way too.

Alternate Rain Date

It hasn’t rained on our party yet. But the weather has been kind of unpredictable this year. So not wanting to take any chances, we have an alternate “rain date” of Saturday May 7 2016 – to be used ONLY if the park trails are closed on our scheduled date. We’ll keep you posted as the date gets near.

Post-Ride Party

After the ride join us for our famous post-ride PARTY. We’ll have a HUGE raffle with tons of cool prizes donated by our generous sponsors. Plus, we’ll have massage therapists, games, bike shop expo, cold drinks and hot music. Bring your friends and family to share in the fun!
